近期的醫學學術報告，並未看到任何學術討論提及鑽石公主號上的傳染途徑與蓮蓬頭、沐浴器或沐浴用水有關聯。目前疫情調查的追查多認為是隔離動線規劃不夠精細，感控管理不當，而造成交叉感染。
