我國對於製造及散布假新聞或假消息，造成大眾恐慌之行為，會因為所散布之不實資訊的內容或影響之對象不同，而在不同法規分別定有處罰。對於假新聞或假消息之處罰，我國已有許多法規定有明文，並非新三讀通過的法案。
