攝取維他命D肌膚從陽光當中接觸到特定波長的紫外線(290-315nm) ,便能促進維生素 D3 合成。一天 30 分鐘,四肢及臉部曬到太陽就足夠。成人一天勿攝取超過 2000IU,否則可能在身體累積過多維生素 D,輕則引起噁心、嘔吐、食慾不佳、體重下降等情況,嚴重則因過度增加血鈣濃度,導致高血鈣症,使得血管與組織器官鈣化,進而損壞心臟血管與腎臟。
